چکیده

We propose a fuzzy logic recursive scheme for motion detection and spatiotemporal filtering that can deal with the Gaussian noise and unsteady illumination conditions in both the temporal and spatial directions. Our focus is on applications concerning tracking and denoising of image sequences. We process an input noisy sequence with fuzzy logic motion detection to determine the degree of motion confidence. The proposed motion detector combines the membership of the temporal intensity changes, appropriately using fuzzy rules, where the membership degree of motion for each pixel in a 2-D sliding window is determined by a proposed membership function. Both the fuzzy membership function and the fuzzy rules are defined in such a way that the performance of the motion detector is optimized in terms of its robustness to noise and unsteady lighting conditions. We simultaneously perform tracking and recursive adaptive temporal filtering, where the amount of filtering is inversely proportional to the confidence in the existence of motion. Finally, temporally filtered frames are further processed by a proposed spatial filter to obtain a denoised image sequence. Our main contribution is a robust novel fuzzy recursive scheme for motion detection and temporal filtering. We evaluate the proposed motion detection algorithm using two criteria: (1) robustness to noise and to changing illumination conditions and (2) motion blur in temporal recursive denoising. Additionally, we make comparisons in terms of noise reduction with other state of the art video denoising techniques. © 2006 SPIE and IS&T. DOI: 10.1117/1.2201548

Fuzzy Logic Recursive Gaussian Denoising of Color Video Sequences via Shot Change Detection

A new technique using fuzzy in a recursive fashion is presented to deal with the Gaussian noise. In this technique, the keyframes and between frames are identified initially and the keyframe is denoised efficiently. This frame is compared with the between frames to remove noise. To do so the frames are partitioned into blocks; the motion vector is calculated; also the difference is measured usi...

Fuzzy Directional Adaptive Recursive Temporal Filter for Denoising of Video Sequences

In this paper we present the fuzzy directional adaptive recursive temporal filter for denoising of video sequences. The use of spatial-temporal information is considered more efficient in presence of fast motion and noise. We connect the differences between images, such as, the angle deviations to obtain several parameters to apply them in the proposed algorithm to detect and differentiate move...

A Fall Detection System based on the Type II Fuzzy Logic and Multi-Objective PSO Algorithm

The Elderly health is an important and noticeable issue; since these people are priceless resources of experience in the society. Elderly adults are more likely to be severely injured or to die following falls. Hence, fast detection of such incidents may even lead to saving the life of the injured person. Several techniques have been proposed lately for the fall detection of people, mostly cate...

Evaluation of Several Operators for Fuzzy-based Motion Adaptive De-interlacing

Video signals can be interlaced or noninterlaced. The interlaced scan format suffers from several possible artifacts such as flicker, twitter, and crawling. De-interlacing algorithms convert an interlaced video signal to the progressive scan format by interpolating the missing lines. These algorithms can be used to improve picture quality, but can also be necessary to use interlaced video on pr...

Traffic Scene Analysis using Hierarchical Sparse Topical Coding

Analyzing motion patterns in traffic videos can be exploited directly to generate high-level descriptions of the video contents. Such descriptions may further be employed in different traffic applications such as traffic phase detection and abnormal event detection. One of the most recent and successful unsupervised methods for complex traffic scene analysis is based on topic models. In this pa...
